I’m Not Afraid to Die Anymore, the pop-rock musical (INATDA) is a 50-minute solo show about the transformative power of music in Ado Nkemka’s life from childhood up until adulthood, as an emerging pop-rock star. Oh Mother! is a raw and intimate live art performance, Ogden selects an audience member to paint while unraveling the tangled roots of her artistic identity. The story follows Bekah’s rebellious quest to become an artist—much to the horror of her bold, no-nonsense Black mother, who thinks art is frivolous, (if not downright evil,) and of course, that the greatest calling for a woman is to be a… wait for it… mother! From cape dresses to homeschooling twelve kids, (yes twelve), this piece blends humor, heartbreak, and sharp insight into what it means to grow up with a calling that defies your family’s blueprint. At its core, it's a fierce, funny, and vulnerable reckoning with identity, and the quiet war between being seen and being chosen.
