Motel Theatre, Arts Commons

ADDRESS: 225 – 8 Ave SE, Arts Commons Bldg
PERFORMANCE VENUE – The Motel Theatre is the home of Downstage, who curate the space as an accessible home for smaller theatre and performance companies. Located on the mezzanine level of Arts Commons across from the Big Secret Theatre, Motel is instantly recognizable by its whimsical sign. It’s an intimate, 50-seat black-box style theatre.
Other venue info:
**Higher than 10ft ceilings.
**Public Gender-Neutral Washrooms (Front of House will help direct you to where you need to go).
**Air Conditioned.
MOBILITY ACCESS – full mobility accessible to the building and the performance venue itself. While seating risers will be used in the performance space, accessible seating will be made available for wheelchairs and electric scooters. Most wheelchair user patrons use the elevator to the left of Motel Theatre’s main entrance (when facing it – see diagram and read more accessibility information here).
PARKING: The Arts Commons Parkade has designated accessibility parking spaces available, but the parkade fills up quickly, so it is recommended coming early. If the Arts Commons parkade does not have an accessible stall available, additional parking is available at the City Hall parkade, which has a much larger capacity of accessible parking stalls per level and is accessible via the +15 walkways.
Drop-offs can be made on 8th Avenue in front of the Jack Singer Concert Hall with ramp access into the interior of the building. In the instance that 8th Avenue is closed, drop-offs can be made in the pull-out outside of the Max Bell Theatre which is accessed from 9th Avenue.
For more details of parking in the area, call 403-537-7000 or go to Calgary Parking.
