Their relationship, now shattered by colliding views about the “right” way to impress upon the world as a woman, hurts almost as much as the contractions. SLAM FAQS:

What is a poetry slam?

Slam poetry is a type of competition where people read their poems without props, costumes, or music. After performing, they receive scores (0-10) from randomly selected judges. The judges can be anyone: they don’t even need to be poets! Scores are awarded based on how much each judge likes a poem. The purpose of this judging process is to make poetry participatory for everyone. Slam poetry doesn’t need to be a specific form of poetry.

What do I need to bring?

• $22 entrance fee (can purchase tickets ahead of time online, or pay at the door. Both cash and card payments accepted.)
• 2 poems, each less than 3 minutes.
• Friends! The bigger the audience, the better the show!

What are the rules?

• No props, no costumes, no animal acts, no nudity.
• No booing.
• Keep your poem under 3 minutes and 10 seconds or you'll lose points.

CONTENT WARNING: poetry slams often deal with hard topics such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, grief and death, social issues, etc.

Ticket sale proceeds goes to the Writers Guild of Alberta and the Calgary Poetry Slam.

You're Driving Me Crazy

General Audience (Age 13+)

Sibling dynamics are hard. Cramming them into a small car that smells like old McDonalds’ fries on a six-hour road trip can make them even harder. Sisters Jen and Penny seem to have found themselves in that very car, and to make it worse – they’re late. Terribly late to a wedding they don’t want to attend. Watch as a pleasant drive down memory lane turns into a disaster of cosmic proportions, as perspectives clash, secrets are spilled, and tensions bubble over, all within their blue 2006 Honda Civic. Another Mother

General Audience (Age 12+)

Cassidy, a woman in her early 20s, is about to give birth. The labour pains propel her through memories of her own childhood with a workaholic mother, and the path that has led her to a life so different from her mom’s. Their relationship, now shattered by colliding views about the “right” way to impress upon the world as a woman, hurts almost as much as the contractions. Another Mother explores what it means to sacrifice your life for the sake of your children, and what it means to sacrifice your children for the sake of your life.
